At Stanley Black & Decker, we use innovation to fuel our businesses, introducing more than 1,000 new products a year.
As part of our growth journey and transformation, we intend to become a disruptor to watch for, bringing new breakthrough innovations to market from all across our enterprise.
Thats why it should come as no surprise that summer at Stanley Black & Decker was filled with ideas and innovations during internship season.
More than 150 College interns recently completed 10-12 weeks of concentrated work with teams around our company focusing on skills in marketing, supply management, finance, engineering and more. While many interns were spread throughout various fields, they came together to focus on one task throughout the summer: innovation.
In Connecticut at the Companys World Headquarters, teams tackled an Exponential Learning Challenge related to electronic vehicles. They were tasked with formulating ideas that could revolutionize the industry. Not just innovations, but exponential innovations, meaning the output (or impact) would be disproportionately (10x) larger than a peers idea. Over the course of the summer, with guidance from employee mentors, they created ideas ranging from wireless inductive charging to a swappable battery platform.
Were incredibly proud to have had more than 150 enthusiastic, talented, and passionate interns this summer, who brought unique ideas and creative thinking to
our Company.
And in Maryland, at the Companys Tools & Storage Headquarters, interns participated in the first-ever Intern Product Innovation Challenge. Interns were broken into multi-disciplinary teams to focus on themes such as the jobsite, IoT, cordless technology, solar power, and more.
By collaborating across the business, each team took their ideas to the next level by evaluating the market, understanding customer insights and building proof of concepts in our Makerspace in Maryland. Finally, they pitched their ideas to a Shark Tank-like panel. The quality of creative solutions was impressive, in fact some ideas are currently being vetted out.
Were incredibly proud to have had more than 150 enthusiastic, talented, and passionate interns this summer, who brought unique ideas and creative thinking to our Company. And were honored to have shared with them our vision for an innovative future because we believe these students can change the world.
